Vice President's Letter June, 2010

June 2010

 June-----------Summer? Not here in Delancey NY. Although it is May, the temperature is a cool 54 degrees today.  But while I am writing, the sun on the deck makes it warm enough for me to sit and enjoy watching Mother Nature unfold. Birds of all species come to nest and enjoy the “EKLOFF INN”. This brief time of quiet renews my belief in nature and man’s ability to keep “plugging along”.

We, as an organization, too, have been “plugging along”. The Convention is here and it’s hard to believe 2 years have gone by so quickly.  Lodges have transformed ideas on how to run meetings and ventured into a new area of membership dinners with the help of our financial advisors. Many lodges embrace the Norwegian culture with bunad making classes, internet language classes, and folk dancing. Many took up Brother Ralph’s challenge to work on their Sports Medal. Lodges have started reading books by Norwegian authors earning the Cultural Medals.

We, as a District, grew by adding new lodges and having the 3D website bring us together in ways we only imagined. The website is getting our message out to the masses, and to the many Scandinavians out there who weren’t aware we exist. I went to every lodge which has a website listed.  Only a few need updating, but there are over 20 functional sites.  That’s great.   “How To Start A Website And How To Keep It Current” might be a worthwhile topic at the Convention.  All the lodges could get together to share their ideas. 

Writing down all that’s happened – here in print – you can really see it’s been a good two years.

Enjoy your summer…take advantage of the beautiful weather and visit a lodge you wouldn’t normally get to.  Enjoy the fellowship and the food ─- a lot of the lodges have picnics and lobster parties.  Join in the fun!!!

Congratulations to all the Lodges in the Medlemskap scorer bord!   The results are in.  Three lodges ─ Nansen, Washington, and Maine Nordmenn ─ had 2 members, with a grand total of 14!  These 999 members joined a local lodge and will see all that SON has to offer. Good Job!! Let’s keep up the good work!!  We were TOPS throughout the entire District in Sons of Norway! The tremendous Third Strikes again!
